Guwahati, May 29 -- The Assam cabinet on Wednesday decided to give arms licenCes to original inhabitants of the state in vulnerable areas, who have been living under threat.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said after a cabinet meeting that it has been a long standing of people in vulnerable areas to grant arms licence to them

The chief minister said that the scheme will be applicable in those vulnerable areas where the original inhabitants of the states are a minority now.

He said that the new scheme, Special Scheme to Grant Arms Licenses to Original Inhabitants and Indigenous Indian Citizens in vulnerable and remote areas of Assam, will help the indigenous people in vulnerable areas to have an arms license.
