Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 26 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has taken a historic lead in Kerala's local body elections by fielding 21,065 candidates across the state, BJP State General Secretary Adv. S Suresh announced on Wednesday.
A total of 19,871 candidates are contesting under the BJP's lotus symbol, making the party the single largest participant in the electoral race. The lotus is also the most widely used symbol in this election. With 89.5 percent of all seats represented, the BJP has released the largest candidate list in its political history in Kerala.
The party has achieved 99 percent seat coverage in municipal corporations, while the BJP-NDA alliance is contesting 93 percent of block panchayat seats.
