Aizawl, Feb. 26 -- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged as the most dominant contender in the upcoming elections to 88 village councils (VCs) under the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), state election commission officials said on Wednesday.

Polling for the councils is set to take place on March 12.

According to officials, a total of 516 seats are up for grabs across these 88 village councils. Of these, 428 are general seats, while 88 are exclusively reserved for women. Following the deadline for withdrawal of nominations on Monday, the final list of candidates stands at 1,026. This includes 872 contenders for the general seats and 154 women competing for the reserved positions.
