Kolkata, Oct. 7 -- Even after 24 hours as there was no arrest into the alleged attack on Malda North MP Khagen Murmu and Siliguri MLA Shankar Ghosh in Nagrakata, Jalpaiguri district, on Monday, the West Bengal unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has demanded for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe.

Addressing a press conference here today, state BJP president Shamik Bhattacharya described the assault as "pre-planned" and intended to intimidate the Opposition.

"We demand an NIA investigation into this attack on our elected representatives. Repeated assaults on public servants cannot be tolerated. If anyone believes that attacking an MP will frighten the BJP, they are gravely mistaken," Bhattacharya said.
