Shimla, Feb. 11 -- BJP leader and Himachal Pradesh co-incharge Sanjay Tandon on Wednesday defended the Modi-led Central Government over discontinuation of the Revenue Deficit Grant (RDG) to the State asserting that the move was based on long-standing Finance Commission recommendations and not a politically motivated decision.

Addressing a press conference in Shimla, he said the timeline for tapering RDG support had been clearly defined years in advance and the state government was expected to prepare for fiscal self-reliance.
