Bengaluru, Jan. 5 -- The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday accused the Congress-led state government of attempting to "turn Karnataka into another Bangladesh," sparking fresh political controversy ahead of the upcoming elections.

BJP state president Vijayendra Yediyurappa made the allegation during a protest against the government's decision to allot houses to people alleged to be illegal migrants in the Kogilu area of Bengaluru.

Addressing party workers and supporters outside Country Club on Bagalur Main Road under the slogan "Save Kogilu, remove illegal migrants," Vijayendra described the housing move as an "unpardonable crime" and vowed to launch statewide protests against it.
