Dehradun, Aug. 11 -- As Uttarakhand reels under state's worst natural disaster in last one decade, BJP got a big shot in its arm today as ruling party got its four district panchayat heads elected unopposed.

Party also managed to elect 11 Kshetra (Block) panchayats without any challenge. As elections for remaining eight district and 75 more block panchayat bodies are scheduled for the coming days, BJP's sweeping win in the first round came as a big shocker for the opposition Congress party as latter failed even to find candidates for contesting in three hill districts Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh and Champawat and Udhamsingh Nagar in plain Terai region of the state.
