Mumbai, Oct. 2 -- Acting on information about violation of Hallmarking of Gold Jewellery and Gold Artefacts Order, 2020, a team of officials from Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Mumbai Branch Office, conducted an enforcement raid at a jewellery showroom in Sonapur, Mumbai.
During the raid, it was found that the jewellery outlet had displayed gold jewellery for sale without the BIS hallmark. Around 47gm of such gold jewellery, without the BIS hallmark found during the raid, was seized, said a release from the Press Information Bureau (PIB) today.
The violation falls under Section 15(3) and 17(1)(a) of BIS Act 2016, which provides for imprisonment up to two years or a fine of minimum Rs. 2,00,000 or both. Action is being initiated to file...
