Balasore, July 21 -- The workers of the erstwhile Birla Tyres, under various trade unions, have threatened to commit mass self-immolation along with their families on July 31, protesting the non-fulfillment of their longstanding demands.

The workers' key demands include, reemployment in the new joint venture company that took over Birla Tyres, payment of pending salaries and settlement of gratuity and Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) dues.

Convener of the Joint Trade Unions Forum, Satyanarayan Acharya told newsmen today that the workers have been " running from pillar to post seeking reemployment for workers, and clearance of our dues including PF and gratuity ever since the bankrupt company (Birla Tyres) was acquired by the new joint vent...
