New Delhi, Sept. 27 -- Two wetlands from Bihar, Gokul Jalashay (448 hectares) in Buxar district and Udaipur Jheel (319 hectares) in West Champaran district, have been designated as new Ramsar sites, under the international Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
With this inclusion, the total number of Ramsar sites in India has risen to 93, covering an area of 13,60,719 hectares.
India now leads Asia in the number of designated wetlands under the convention.
Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, announced the development on social media platform X.
