Srinagar, Dec. 1 -- A court in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir awarded life imprisonment to a Bihar resident convicted under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with imposing hefty fines for the crime.
Varinder Thakur a resident of Sariswa, Bihar, was awarded life imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 50,000 by the Court of Principal Sessions Judge, Ganderbal, under Section 06 of POCSO Act.
In addition to the above conviction, Thakur has also been handed additional sentences under the Indian Penal Code, with the court awarding one year's imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1,000 under Section 342, and two years' imprisonment along with a Rs 2,000 fine under Section 506, to run alongside his life term.
