Patna, March 23 -- The Bihar Prohibition and Excise Department on Monday directed officials to initiate the process of neera production and license renewal under the Mukhyamantri Neera Samvardhan Yojana.
Official sources said here that the scheme, aimed at promoting production and sale of neera a non-fermented natural sap extracted from palm trees, has been in operation since 2025.
Its large scale implementation is planned during the 2026 neera season.
Under the policy, extraction of neera is permitted only by licensed tappers. Individuals registered with Jeevika Neera producer groups are issued licenses by the department, authorising them to carry out the activity.
