Gadchiroli, Oct. 15 -- Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today termed the surrender of senior Naxalite leader Mallojula Venugopal Rao, alias Bhupati, as a vital step towards ending the violent Naxalite movement in the state.

Addressing a public gathering in Gadchiroli, CM Fadnavis said, "The surrender of Bhupati, along with 60 other cadres, marks a major milestone in our fight against the Naxalite insurgency in Maharashtra."Fadnavis emphasized that while rural Naxalism is in decline, urban Naxalism remains a serious concern.

"The current battle is not just in forests but in minds and ideologies, it is now urban Naxalism versus the Constitution," he said.
