Nagpur, Sept. 20 -- Maharashtra minister and senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal today backtracked from his earlier remarks linking party founder Sharad Pawar to the Antarwali Sarati police lathicharge, saying he had been misquoted.
On the eve of the NCP's two-day "Chintan Shibir" in Nagpur, Bhujbal had stirred a controversy by alleging that Pawar was responsible for police action on Maratha agitators at Antarwali Sarati two years ago. His comments triggered sharp reactions within political circles.
