Ranchi, Aug. 9 -- Extending his greetings on World Tribal Day, tribal leader Surya Singh Besra appealed for unity among indigenous peoples across the world and reiterated the demand for a separate religion code for India's tribal population.
Besra recalled that on August 9, 1982, the United Nations issued a declaration upholding the fundamental human rights of indigenous peoples, including the right to self-determination and
rights over water, forest and land.
The declaration, he noted, contains 46 articles outlining these provisions.
