Kolkata, April 12 -- Amidst reports of unrest in parts of the state in protest against the new Waqf Act, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday appealed to people to exercise restraint and desist from engaging in any "irreligious" acts in the name of religion.

Without taking any names or mentioning any political party, Banerjee also cautioned not to "incite riots for political gain".
