Kolkata, April 19 -- Barring reports of stray violence, the first phase election to three Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal was by and large peaceful as 77.57 percent of the 5.6 million electorate exercised their franchise till 5 PM on Friday.

Polling was brisk and long queues were seen outside the booths in the first phase election comprising the Cooch Behar, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri constituencies.

According to the Election Commission, the overall polling figure was 77.57 percent till 5 PM.

While Cooch Behar recorded 77.73 percent polling, Alipurduar and Jalpaiguri registered 75.54 per cent and 79.33 percent respectively.
