Kolkata, June 27 -- Bengal's former Ranji Trophy cricketer Shyam Sundar Mitra, who represented the state for 14 years between 1958-72, died of his old age today.

Born in 1936 Mitra was 82. His end came early today at a city hospital following prolonged illness of his old age.

Shyam Sundar Mitra, popularly known as Shamuda, a top order batsman had played as many as 59 first-class matches between 1958-1972 and scored 3059 runs with seven centuries. His highest score was 155 with average 50.13.
