Kolkata, March 18 -- In a bid to throw a strong challenge to Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) has nominated his one-time close aide, Pabitra Kar, against the BJP veteran in the Nandigram constituency for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Kar, a TMC leader, crossed over to the BJP with Adhikari in December, 2020. He was the chief election strategist of Adhikari in Nandigram, five years back, when the BJP leader defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by a slender margin.
Trinamool Congress workers distributed sweets and put green abir on each other's foreheads to celebrate Kar's candidature. The leaders said they would fight together to defeat Adhikari.
