Siliguri, March 16 -- Former West Bengal Urban Development Minister Asok Bhattacharya on Monday appealed to voters through social media to support his party's candidates contesting from Siliguri, Dabgram-Fulbari and Matigara-Naxalbari Assembly constituencies.

Bhattacharya, a former Mayor of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation, is not contesting the Assembly elections this time. In the previous election, he finished third.

The Siliguri seat was won by BJP candidate Dr Sankar Ghosh - once considered a political protege of Bhattacharya - who defeated Trinamool Congress nominee Om Prakash Mishra. Bhattacharya had earlier lost the seat in 2011, when the Trinamool Congress opened its account in Siliguri, but regained it in 2016.
