Kolkata, May 11 -- West Bengal Urban Development Minister and city Mayor Firhad Hakim on Sunday declared open the 50th All India Schools Regatta Championship, being organised by Lake Club at the Rabindra Sarobar in the city,

The opening day saw South Point school boys and Modern High School girls winning their races against St Lawrence and Delhi Public School in senior boys fours and senior girls pairs events respectively. About 400 students, both boys and girls from nearly 50 schools, are participating in the championship. This flagship regatta has been recognised in the country as the single most important event to promote this sport among the young students with the motto 'Catch Them Young'.
