Kolkata, Nov. 29 -- West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose on Friday took stern action against the unauthorised felling of heritage trees within the Raj Bhavan premises in Kolkata.
The Governor, who was present at the scene, immediately stopped the cutting and ordered an inquiry upon learning that the action was taken without his knowledge or approval.
The Governor has directed the removal of the concerned PWD engineer and assistant engineer from Raj Bhavan with immediate effect.
The truck which was taking timber was also detained.
The Governor also convened an emergency meeting and summoned the officers from Police, Forest , Public Works Department, for an evaluation.
