Kolkata, Dec. 16 -- West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose on Tuesday hailed the Indian Armed Forces at a programme marking Vijay Diwas - celebrating the day the Indian Army defeated Pakistan in the 1971 war that also led to the creation of an independent Bangladesh.

Bose remembered the valour of the Indian Armed Forces during the war, which forced around 90,000 Pakistani troops to surrender.

Attending a Military programme at Vijay Durg (Fort William), the headquarters of the Eastern Command, the governor also praised the valour of the 'Muktijoddhas' - the Bangladesh freedom fighters - in the country's liberation war. A team of 20 muktijoddhas, who had come to the city from Bangladesh, were present at the programme.
