Kolkata, Sept. 3 -- West Bengal, especially Tollywood, today fondly remembers Bengal cinema icon 'Mahanayak" Uttam Kumar on his 99th birth anniversary by organising cultural programmes across the state.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while paying tribute to the legendary actor said, "The evergreen Mahanayak is the pollstar of the Bengali cinema".
Arun Kumar Chattopadhyay was born on this day in 1926 and professionally known as Uttam Kumar. He was a versatile actor, director, producer, screenwriter, composer and playback singer who predominantly worked in Bengali cinema and widely regarded as one of the greatest and most successful actors in the history of Indian cinema.
