Kolkata, Aug. 7 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today paid glowing tribute to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore on his 84th death anniversary, saying the poet lives every day of the year and surrounds the lives of us.

Banerjee said they remembered the contributions of the poet, especially when the Bengali people were attacked and targeted for speaking the Bengali language.

"The poet is now an inspiration for us to carry on the fight," the Bengal CM said while remembering the Nobel laureate.

Born on May 7, 1861, at his ancestral house of Jorasanko Thakurbari in what was then Calcutta, Rabindranath Tagore died on August 7, 1941, at the same place.
