Kolkata, Aug. 22 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today expressed her sadness at the death of UK-based Indian industrialist Swraj Paul.

Lord Swraj Paul, the Indian-born chair of the Caparo Group, passed away in London yesterday evening at the age of 94.

Paul, who had taken ill recently, made an indelible mark in the business and industrial spheres in India, the UK and other countries.

"Deeply saddened by the demise of Swraj Paul ji. He was a business tycoon, a formidable industrialist, a philanthropist, and an icon of the global Indian diaspora with deep Kolkata connections," the Bengal Chief Minister said.
