Kolkata, Sept. 23 -- West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today expressed grave concern over the overnight rains triggered by cloudbursts and its devastating effect on the normal life of Kolkata.

She also conveyed her condolences to those who lost their lives and emphasised the need for urgent support for the affected families, including employment assurances for the next of kin.

Highlighting the unusual intensity of the rainfall, she noted that schools have been instructed to remain closed and office-goers advised not to report to work, prioritising public safety over routine activities.
