Kolkata, April 14 -- West Bengal on Monday celebrated Ambedkar Jayanti, also known as Bhim Jatanti, to mark the birth anniversary and to honour the legacy Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the maker of Indian Constitution. Every year on April 14, tribute is paid to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, independent India's first law minister, on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti. On the Dalit icon's 135th birth anniversary, a nationwide holiday is being observed in many sectors to commemorate the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.
