Kolkata, Feb. 8 -- The Trinamool Congress on Sunday suspended a local councillor in North 24 Parganas after an 81-year-old man died following a violent clash over an alleged illegal construction.
The incident took place in Manirampur under Ward No. 23 of North Barrackpore.
The accused councillor, Rabindranath Bhattacharya, has been arrested in connection with the death of Tulshi Adhikari.
According to sources in the party, the incident happened on Saturday afternoon when residents had been protesting against an alleged illegal construction near their homes. Tension escalated when the councillor reached the spot.
