Kolkata, Feb. 20 -- The Supreme Court's decision to place the adjudication of claims and objections arising from the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal under the supervision of serving and retired judicial officers has deepened political divide in the state, with Opposition calling it a disgrace and the ruling Trinamool Congress projecting it as a major institutional correction.

Union Minister of State and former West Bengal BJP president Sukanta Majumdar said the apex court's intervention reflected poorly on the state.

"It is unfortunate that West Bengal has reached a point where a routine electoral revision cannot be completed peacefully without judicial monitoring," he said.
