Aizawl, Sept. 2 -- The upcoming by-election in Dampa constituency, triggered by the death of MNF legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo, is shaping up into a multi-cornered contest as major parties manoeuvre over candidate selection.
The constituency has 20,405 registered voters in the draft roll released today, with men (10,425) slightly outnumbering women (9,980) across 41 polling stations. The final list will be published on September 30, after claims and objections are settled.
Bordering Bangladesh and close to Tripura, Dampa has a sizeable minority population and has traditionally leaned towards Congress, though the BJP is eyeing it as a potential breakthroughseat.
