Bareilly, Sept. 27 -- Tensions flared in Bareilly today following a call by Maulana Tauqeer Raza for a protest at Islamia Ground.

The situation escalated after Friday prayers when a large crowd gathered and insisted on marching toward the ground, defying police restrictions.

The situation turned volatile when the crowd began chanting religious slogans and reportedly started pelting stones at the police.

In response, law enforcement resorted to a lathi-charge and used tear gas to disperse the mob, leading to chaos and a brief stampede in the area.
