Chennai, Jan. 27 -- The nationwide strike by bank employees on Tuesday demanding the introduction of a five-day work week was a total success, said C.H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary of the All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA).
Venkatachalam said that in the financial sector, institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), and General Insurance Corporation (GIC) already follow a five-day work week. Similarly, Central and State government offices function from Monday to Friday. Stock exchanges operate only on weekdays, while money market and foreign exchange transactions remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays.
