Kolkata, Nov. 6 -- The West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) on Thursday issued a directive making it mandatory for students in all government and government-aided schools to sing Rabindranath Tagore's "Banglar Mati Banglar Jol" during their morning prayer assemblies.

The song, written by Tagore in 1905 during the anti-Partition movement, was officially adopted as the State Song of West Bengal in 2023 after a resolution was passed in the Assembly. The latest order marks its inclusion as a daily prayer song in schools across the state.
