Kolkata, Sept. 17 -- Ahead of Durga Puja celebrations, the much-awaited Hilsa fish is likely to be available in Indian markets, especially in West Bengal, from Friday.
This follows the Bangladesh interim government's approval to export 1,200 tonnes of Hilsa to India. The Bangladesh Commerce Ministry in Dhaka has greenlit the export in favor of 37 fish merchants.
Sources in Kolkata indicate that since the import-export at the Benapole-Petrapole border in North 24 Parganas was closed today due to Viswakarma Puja, trading between the two countries will resume tomorrow. A truck-laden Hilsa is expected to reach retail markets by Friday.
