Bengaluru, Jan. 2 -- The Karnataka government on Friday placed Ballari Superintendent of Police Pavan Nejjur under suspension with immediate effect pending inquiry, following alleged lapses in handling law and order during a recent incident in the district.

According to a government order issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), the decision was taken after examining reports submitted by the Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG&IGP) and the Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP), Ballari Range.

The suspension stems from a clash that broke out during the unveiling programme of a statue of Maharishi Valmiki at SP Circle in Ballari, which led to untoward incidents including stone pelting.
