Shillong, March 7 -- The Baljek Airport in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district, which was inaugurated by then President Pratibha Patil in 2008 but has remained non-functional for 17 years now, is likely to be made operational by 2026, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said on Friday.
He said the government is also committed to ensure expansion of the Umroi Airport, also known as Shillong Airport and Baljek Airport, also called Tura Airport, by next year.
"By 2026 we are hopeful we should be able to operate the aircraft from the Baljek airport. We are already on that track," he told the Assembly during the Question Hour.
