Balasore, July 16 -- Normal life came to a standstill in Balasore district today due to an eight-hour bandh called by the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), the main opposition party in Odisha, in protest against the death of Soumyashree Bisi, a student of F.M. (Autonomous) College.
The bandh, observed from 6 am to 2 pm, passed off peacefully with no reports of untoward incidents.
The BJD called the bandh alleging apathy and inaction by the college authorities, district administration, and political leadership, which, they claimed, led to the death of 20-year-old Soumyashree, a second-year Integrated B.Ed. student.
