Ranchi, July 13 -- BJP state president and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi today alleged large-scale irregularities in the distribution of bicycles to government school students in Jharkhand, accusing the state government of compromising children's welfare through corrupt practices.

Marandi claimed that cycles distributed under the welfare scheme were in unusable condition.

"Students were given scrap bicycles - some with punctured or torn tyres, others with jammed chains or loose handles. Many children were seen carrying the bicycles on their shoulders or dragging them home," he said.
