Dhaka, May 11 -- The Awami League has rejected as "illegal and unconstitutional" the ban on its activities by the Interim Government of Bangladesh, and said it proves that the "fascist" Yunus regime is seeking to turn the country "into a fertile ground for anti-liberation forces and extremist groups."

In a statement, the party said the very party under whose leadership Bangladesh achieved independence and emerged as a sovereign state has now had its activities banned by an unelected, anti-democratic, fascist government devoid of public mandate.
