Nagpur, Oct. 4 -- union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said the aviation sector will play a vital role in realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a "developed India," and highlighted Nagpur's potential to emerge as a national aviation hub.
Speaking at a symposium on Role of Aviation in Developed India in Nagpur, Gadkari said the city's central geographical location could make it a major air traffic control grid, with the possibility of overseeing several airports across the country in the future.
He pointed out that the number of airports in India has doubled from 75 to 150, while the demand for air carriers has risen by 22 per cent.
Helicopter aviation, he noted, is the fastest-growing sector.
