Guwahati, April 4 -- The average asset of the candidates in fray for the April 9 Assam Assembly polls is Rs 3.25 crores, which is 54 per cent more than the average asset of contestants in the elections to the state legislature held five years back, according to two non-governmental poll watchdogs.
In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the average asset per candidate was Rs. 2.10 crore, the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) and Assam Election Watch said in a report which analysed the self-sworn affidavits of all 722 nominees in the field this time. In the previouspolls, 941 contestants had thrown their hats into the ring.
