Pune, April 6 -- The long-standing demand for a dedicated welfare corporation for auto-rickshaw drivers and owners has finally been fulfilled after a sustained 22-year struggle, said Dr Baba Kamble, founder-president of the Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat.
He described the formation of the welfare board as a hard-earned outcome of the sacrifices and relentless efforts of rickshaw drivers.
Dr Kamble was speaking on Monday at a felicitation ceremony and awareness gathering held in Chakan, organised by the Maharashtra Rickshaw Panchayat (Khed-Chakan unit) to celebrate the establishment of the welfare board and the decision to halt the issuance of open auto-rickshaw permits.
