Srinagar, Feb. 4 -- The authorities have seized several unlabelled machine made carpets being falsely marketed and sold as authentic Kashmir handmade carpets by the vendors in the valley, officials said.
The action follows recent reports in local media highlighting the influx of machine-made Turkish and Iranian carpets being sold under the guise of genuine Kashmiri hand-knotted carpets, spokesperson of Handicrafts and Handloom Department said in a press statement here on Tuesday.
Several counterfeit products were confiscated and stern warnings were issued to errant dealers to ensure compliance with Quality Control standards, he said.
