Canberra, July 31 -- For Australia, the recognition of Palestine as a sovereign state is not a question of 'if' but rather of 'when', said Treasurer Jim Chalmers following Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's statement on Palestine's recognition being but a matter of time, reports Times of Israel.
"It's a matter of when, not if, Australia recognises a Palestinian state. but I don't want to put a time frame on it," Chalmers told public broadcaster ABC, adding that the treatment of hostages and any involvement of Hamas terrorists in a future Palestinian state remained major obstacles for Canberra.
