Canberra/Brussels, March 24 -- Australia and the European union have concluded a "landmark" free trade agreement after nearly eight years of negotiations, significantly boosting market access, cutting tariffs, and deepening economic ties between the two sides.
The deal was announced by Anthony Albanese and Ursula von der Leyen, who described it as a major step in strengthening a "growing strategic relationship" and reinforcing commitment to "open and rules-based trade."Under the agreement, "98 per cent of the current value of Australia's exports" will enter the EU duty-free, providing a major lift to sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, and critical minerals.
