Sydney, March 6 -- A teenage boy was arrested after entering a commercial flight with a firearm in Australia's state of Victoria on Thursday.
Victorian police said in a statement on Thursday evening that officers were called to Avalon Airport, over 50 km southwest of Melbourne city centre, at about 2:20 p.m. local time after a 17-year-old boy had entered a commercial flight armed with a firearm.
The boy was detained by crew and passengers on the flight and has been taken into custody by the police.
Officers believe the boy managed to get onto the tarmac after breaching a security fence.
The police located two bags and a vehicle belonging to the boy. The Bomb Response Unit was called to assist with the bags as a safety precaution.
