Bhubaneswar, Aug. 9 -- Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today said August Kranti Diwas symbolised the unwavering faith and courage of the people, giving a new direction to the country's freedom struggle.

Joining a march in Berhampur, Pradhan paid homage at the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Berhampur Town Hall and recalled the contribution of freedom fighters, including the sons of Baraputra.

He said the Quit India Movement was launched on this day in 1942 under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi to expel the British from India. From August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai, Gandhi gave the 'Do or Die' call, which infused a new momentum into the freedom struggle.
