The current world record holder, Mondo Duplantis, has broken the world record 14 times, each time by one centimetre.
The rationale behind that is simple: the World Athletics Federation awards an athlete with USD 100,000 for breaking a world record.
In the Indian context, this is approximately Rs 90 lakh. In contrast, what the Indian sports ministry offers is Rs 7 crores for winning an Olympic gold, Rs 5 crores for silver, and Rs 3 crores for bronze.
They also offer a slightly lesser number of crores as rewards for Asian Games medals.
