Hamirpur, Oct. 28 -- Manisha Kumari, 24, won laurels for the entire region by winning gold medal in the South Asian Athletics Championship in 4 X 400 meters relay race at the Birsa Munda Stadium, Ranchi. Hailing from a remote village Utpur of Hamirpur District, she became the first athlete from the district to win such a prestigious medal.
Manisha comes from a humble family. Her father, Ramesh Chand, is a truck driver and her mother Sheela Devi, is a homemaker. Despite being raised in odd circumstances, Manisha has faced and successfully overcome many obstacles to make her mark internationally.
